Compensation Studies
Brown University
JBL Associates was asked by Brown University to study the salary disparities between non-minority males and at-risk groups—minorities and women. JBL Associates conducted a data analysis to determine if salary disparities existed among full-time faculty and also prepared a written report of its findings for Brown University’s internal use .
The analysis was conducted by creating a model which included various factors, such as academic rank, number of years at Brown, and the faculty member’s academic department to predict a person’s salary. This model calculated the relative importance of factors that are associated with predicting salaries for a group of majority males, and applied those results to comparable groups of female and minority faculty members. The result was to see if the predicted salary, which is what would be earned if the person were a majority male, differed significantly from the actual salary.
The final compensation report was used for internal purposes at Brown University and is currently not available for public use. For more information on this project, please contact at 301-654-5154.
